Two 22-year old girls hastily shoveled a few feet deep into the earth of a multi-leveled, terraced garden overlooking crashing seas and so much beauty it hurt. We buried a weeks' worth of 'organic' trash in the garden of our generously loaned Amalfi home. Banana peels and clumps of our hair mixed in with the soil, and as we dug, a rat skeleton unearthed. We were trying to help and a little confused with how the 'compost' system worked. In the end we were embarrassingly wrong, but now bits of us are mingled with those lemon trees, creeping up the tomato vines, and spread across the eggplant leaves. We remain everywhere we've been; echoing the internal imprint of our travels.
